What is Sandcastle Shindig?
Local businesses compete to win a year’s worth of bragging rights, trophy and a custom sand sculpture designed and created by Sand Castle University in this fun and family-friendly competition held at the legendary Flora-Bama Lounge and Package. This event is sponsored by Beachball Properties, Sand Castle University, Webn8, and the Flora-Bama.
Proceeds from this family-friendly event benefit the Pleasure Island Junior Woman’s Club – Clothe the Children mission. The PIJWC provides clothing to children in need in the Foley, Gulf Shores, and Orange Beach areas.

SANDCASTLE 101
This isn’t your ordinary sandcastle. Teams will learn from the very best as Janel from Sand Castle University shares the tricks of the trade with participants before they build their own creations for the competition!
Sandcastle Showdown Rules and Information
- Sand Castle University will provide tools to all teams. (Teams are allowed to bring outside tools as well)
- No Hole Digging on the beach allowed
- Each team will have a designated area.
- Only natural materials found on premise can be used for decorations on the sand sculpture
- Any type of sand sculpture is allowed (not limited to castles)
- There is no limit to the size of the sand sculpture
- Teams will be judged based on originality, teamwork, and use of tools.
- No outside alcohol is permitted (per ABC law)

Want to support the cause but can’t participate in the Sandcastle Competition? Then Sponsorship Street is perfect for you! For $100 your business logo will be printed on a “real estate” sign 18″ x 24″ and prominently placed at the Flora-Bama near the competition site. Your business will also be featured in advertisements, posts, etc when we promote the event, and will be mentioned throughout the event.
